MEST 2 Mise-en-scene

Casting details:

Young boy called Ayden who has been raised in a run-down council estate, has dogged the dominant trending of being involved with drugs, has recently found out that his mother has been diagnosed with cancer and takes it upon himself to find the money to fund the treatment. He has no choice but to turn to selling and transporting drugs, resulting in him getting closer to the malevolent gang leader, Elijah. This further results into an argument by suggesting homosexual behaviour, this is then taken out of hand and causes a catastrophic end.

Ayden: The protagonist who is an average 15 year old boy who goes to high school, would be averagely be grouped in the 'Struggles' psychographic group.Ayden been growing up with a deprived surrounding quite harmful for him self however keep its together for him self as well as his mother. He finds out his mother has cancer and does what he can to try and help her regardless of the circumstances,

Elijah: The ring leader of the gang,  who allows Ayden into his illegal scheme. He also in the psychographic group of 'struggler's', who sells marijuana and other illegal substances for a living. 

Mother: Mother of Ayden, who has been diagnosed with cancer, has kept her son on the right path regardless of the location of their home. 

Gangsters: Group of gangsters who seem more like a flock of sheep, obey Elijah and look up to him, they too have come from broken home in run-down deprived locations. 


Aydens friend: He is seen at the initial stages of the production, buying food with from a corner shop with Ayden.


Local drug dealer: A local drug dealer offering drugs to Ayden, who is also in the psychographics of 'struggles'.


Props:

  • Two phones will be used to make an important phone call between Ayden and Elijah
  • A sign at a local hospital with 'intensive care' written on it.
  • A blue bag will be used containing fake drugs offered to Ayden by a local drug dealer.
  • A £10 note will be used by Ayden to pay for the food he buys in a shop.
  • Ayden will be wearing his school uniform to show the audience he has come back from school.
  • A car will also be required, this is where another disequilibrium will happen.

Costume and make-up:

Ayden: He is usually wearing school uniform, with a hooded jacket and sometimes carries a back pack. 

Elijah: He is seen wearing a baggy clothing inspired by gangster clothing.

Gangsters: They are also seen in baggy clothing with trainers to signify they are from a deprived area.

Mother: The mothers hand is seen with a ring and nail polish on it, foundation is used to make is look like an elderly persons hand.

Local drug dealer: He is seen wearing a hooded jumper, his clothing is dark, this is to hide his identity creating an ambiguous affect in his introduction. 

Aydens friend: He is seen wearing a back pack, school clothing which includes a t shirt, tie and blazer with a coat on top, emphasising he is a school boy. However he will look slightly scruffy.

Lighting: 

The estate: High-key lighting is used to clearly show the setting of the scene.

The car: High-key lighting is used to emphasise expression on the characters faces in order for the audience to suture into the narrative. 

Bedroom: High-key lighting is used to show the audience everything within it, as well as the facial expressions presented on Ayden's face. 

The ally way: High key lighting to show he is travelling during the day, to also portray that there is no specific negative action going on at the moment, this allows the audience to make up there mind about the character, Ayden.

Estate at night: Low key lighting to highlight the negative intensity of the situation, furthermore to imply an enigma code of something which may occur.

Stair case: High key lighting because he is on his way to school, portrays innocence of the character in the initial stages of the production.
