The lighting makes her facial features more prominent and make her facial expressions clear to see. you can see her cheek bones which connote shape to her face but also could reflect shape to her personality. Its in black and white lighting making her face look like an angel but with her facial expressions looking not so cheerful she looks like she vulnerable and in a mess.

this lighting causes his eyes to be slightly covered, this emphasises on the anger on his facial expressions. Because the light is coming from the top his facial features make shadows in some parts of his face, making them look prominent, and easy to guess his mood.

However, there is mainly shadows seen on the male character which suggests the producers want us to only see the female characters face. this creates more intimacy
